SOSNM Climate Immersion and Action Workshops
SOSNM hosts free
CLIMATE IMMERSION AND ACTIONS WORKSHOPS
for New Mexico Schools, in person when the Pandemic allows, and virtually before that. Students and educators are invited. These workshops feature climate presentation, EnROADS Climate Interactive exercise, open discussion and formulation of climate actions by students and educators for their schools and communities.
SOSNM team members are available to offer free In School or online classes of one or several sessions to your students on topics related to the solutions of climate change. These build students' resilience and leadership skills to take on a climate challenged world. We will fit in with the standards and requirements of your class, and be open to listening to the ideas and suggestions of your students as they formulate sustainable actions in the school. Some of our members are EnROADS Ambassadors. EnROADS Climate Interactive is an online simulator created by MIT Sloan and Vantana Systems. What if you are able to be in the driver's seat to limit global warming as scientists recommend? What would you learn, what choices would you make? EnROADS will give your students the experience in an engaging setting that will allow them to gain insights into this complex problem. View this 16 minutes video Introduction to EnROADS Climate Interactive, by our members James Eagle and Adam Wasserman.
Contact us at Info@sosnm.org to organize a group experience for your students.

Green Schools Alliance: "We are excited to share that we have just launched our new website (a huge project that's kept us very busy the last few months)! It includes information about START, as well as a free 'member area' for school sustainability champions, where we are curating a resource library with action-focused resources, as well as discussion forums around sustainability topics. We are encouraging all school sustainability champions -- students, teachers, administrators, facilities managers, concerned parents, and community allies to join, so they can access these free resources and share what they can with our peer-to-peer network. We'd love for you to join the Community!"
"Green Schools Alliance- START, the Sustainability Tracking and Roadmap Tool, is a high-performance, digital platform that enables schools to track and analyze their current levels of sustainability across a comprehensive range of metrics and provides guidance to help schools meet their sustainability goals. Built on the award-winning Maalka platform, an offshoot of the U.S. Department of Energy's Innovation Lab, START provides an Onboarding Wizard that streamlines data collection, validation, analysis and visualization, enabling schools to quickly assess their sustainability efforts across over 50 metrics.
START offers Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels for schools to evaluate their current actions and to establish a baseline for where they are on their sustainability journey. " - Green Schools Alliance.

The Case for Stubborn Optimism on Climate
"This decade is a moment of choice unlike any we have ever lived," says Christiana Figueres, the architect of the historic 2015 Paris Agreement. The daughter of Costa Rica's beloved President José Figueres Ferrer, she shares how her father's unwillingness to lose the country he loved taught her how stubborn optimism can catalyze action and change. With an unshakeable determination to fight for the generations that will come after us, Figueres describes what stubborn optimism is (and isn't) -- and urges everyone to envision and work for the future they want for humanity. What inspires us: "When future generations ask us what we did in face of the climate crisis, if our answer is, "We did our best," that's no longer good enough. Our answer has to be, "We did what was necessary."" - Christiana Figueres
